About the Project
Seats of Change is a Vice Versa Global initiative that strengthens the community journalism ecosystem to amplify women’s leadership in county governance and advance women’s rights. Working with community journalists in Turkana, Kilifi, Nairobi, and Makueni, the project documents women’s everyday leadership in local governance and decision-making, highlights the rights they champion, and exposes the barriers they face. Through written stories, short documentaries, a digital magazine, and an impact screening, Seats of Change builds lasting pathways for community-rooted journalism to shape public narratives, advance women’s rights, influence policy, and contribute to more inclusive governance in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the GEWE Strategy (2018–2028).
Role
We are seeking a visionary Lead Producer to bring the Seats of Change feature film to life. This role will drive the creative concept, narrative structure, and cinematic execution of the film, ensuring that it authentically represents women’s leadership and rights in Kenya’s counties. • Coordinate county-based shoots, ensuring respectful, rights-based engagement with communities and story subjects.
Post-Production
• Supervise editing, sound design, subtitling, and final mastering.
• Deliver a high-quality film suitable for screenings, festivals, and digital platforms.
Collaboration and Oversight
• Work closely with the Vice Versa Global team to ensure creative alignment with project goals.
• Integrate feedback from editorial and rights advisors without compromising artistic integrity.
• Ensure timely delivery of the film in line with project milestones and the final impact screening.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Film, Media Production, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
• 4–5 years of experience producing or directing documentary or narrative films. Exceptional emerging filmmakers or collectives with strong portfolios are also encouraged to apply.
• Proven ability to lead or co-lead creative teams from concept to completion.
• Demonstrated experience telling social justice, governance, or rights-based stories with sensitivity to context and community voices.
• Solid technical understanding of cinematography, sound, editing, and post-production workflows.
• Familiarity with ethical storytelling, consent processes, and safeguarding standards in film.
Desired Competencies
• Strong creative vision and ability to translate complex, rights-based themes into compelling visual narratives.
• Commitment to collaborative and inclusive filmmaking, ensuring communities are represented with dignity and agency.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills for multi-stakeholder projects.
