She originates from Tefle, a picturesque town in the Volta Region, known for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural scenery. Mawusi Awity’s academic journey commenced at the prestigious University Primary School, Legon, where she demonstrated exceptional intellectual curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. Under Awity’s leadership, the Ghana TVET Service has achieved significant milestones, including the establishment of a Career Guidance and Counseling Unit, improvement of leadership systems, increase of female directors and institutes, enhancement of infrastructure facilities, and setting a new standard of excellence in TVET. These achievements have had a profound impact on the TVET sector, leading to increased enrollment and employment opportunities for TVET graduates.
During her tenure, the TVET space has seen an increase of over 61,000 SHS graduates, with hopes to surpass 70,000 soon. Her tenure has also seen the establishment of new TVET institutions and programs, leading to increased access to technical and vocational education.

EMPOWERING WOMEN AND YOUTH THROUGH NEWIG
Through her foundation, the Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG), Mawusi Nudekor Awity used the opportunity to empower numerous women and youth in TVET. NEWIG has donated tools and equipment to several schools, including Sokakope TVET School, Tamale Girls in Carpentry, Krobea Asante School, and Tutu Methodist Technical. Additionally, the Western Regional Office and various NGOs in TVET have benefited from NEWIG’s support. These donations aim to enhance learning experiences and foster growth in TVET institutions.
