About the Project
Seats of Change is a Vice Versa Global initiative dedicated to strengthening community journalism that amplifies women’s leadership and advances their rights.
The project documents how women lead and make decisions in everyday life — the rights they champion, the barriers they face, and the impact they create in their communities.
Through written features, short documentaries, a digital magazine, and impact screenings, Seats of Change is building lasting pathways for community-rooted journalism to shape public narratives, make women’s rights visible, and advance a more just and equitable society in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the GEWE Strategy (2018–2028).
Role
The Project Coordinator will serve as the central link connecting all strands of the project, ensuring smooth coordination, timely delivery, and clear communication across teams and partners.
Working closely with editors, trainers, MEL staff, audiovisual teams, and vendors, the coordinator will keep timelines, workplans, and deliverables aligned and ensure quality implementation throughout the project cycle.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Workplan
- Maintain and update the overall project workplan and timelines.
- Use project-management tools (e.g. Asana, Trello, ClickUp, Airtable) to support coordination and monitor progress.
- Anticipate risks or delays and propose solutions in consultation with the team
Training, Editorial & Story Pipeline
- Coordinate schedules for training sessions, mentorship check-ins, and editorial clinics.
- Share regular progress updates with the team and leadership.
Audiovisual & Film Production
- Liaise with the audiovisual partner to align schedules and logistics.
- Ensure timely delivery of required inputs (scripts, releases, assets).
- Facilitate coordination between journalists, producers, and editors.
Digital Magazine Production
- Onboard and coordinate with the magazine vendor to ensure clarity on content and deadlines.
- Track delivery of stories, visuals, and approvals to support timely publication.
- Collaborate with the communications team for effective dissemination.
Screenings & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the coordination focal point with CSO partners, women’s networks, and county contacts.
- Support planning for impact screenings and forums, including dates, venues, and outreach.
- Ensure all team members are briefed and aligned ahead of activities.
MEL & Reporting
- Work with the MEL Officer to ensure data and reflections are captured on schedule.
- Consolidate inputs from MEL, editorial, communications, and finance for timely donor reporting.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure project activities adhere to organizational policies, partners and community requirements, guidelines, and safeguarding standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Development Studies, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience coordinating projects in media, civil society, or development sectors.
- Proficiency with project-management and digital collaboration tools.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with a focus on timelines and detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Understanding of governance, rights, and gender equality issues in Kenya. Familiarity with AU frameworks (Agenda 2063, GEWE, Maputo Protocol) is an advantage.
Desirable
- Experience coordinating content production (journalism, audiovisual, or publishing).
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, shared drives, or collaborative spreadsheets.
- Experience engaging county-level actors, CSOs, or community-based organizations.
- Proficiency in English, Kiswahili and local languages.
