Dr. Joseph Gavin Nyanzi nearly lost a loved one in 2013 due to blood loss during pregnancy. She was reportedly admitted to Mengo Hospital where after many hours of searching for blood, a unit arrived and the victim was transfused and saved. Dr.Gavin a Medical Doctor by profession, then decided to launch a blood donation campaign by mobilizing young people to donate blood and assist him in raising 300 units of blood at the Mengo Hospital Rotary Blood Bank Program
