From Dream to Reality: Introvert Melo Pro On His Journey To Success

Kabogooza Meddie, popularly known as Melo Pro, is the epitome of resilience, creativity, and unwavering dedication.

Born in 1999 in the bustling town of Masaka Kimanya, Meddie grew up in a middle-class family where he learned the importance of hard work and determination. Despite financial challenges, he pursued his dreams relentlessly. It was his exposure to music at an early age that sparked his interest in becoming a DJ. With his sights set on this ambitious goal, he enrolled in a journalism course, knowing it would be a stepping stone to his dream career. His love and passion for music enabled him to become adept at computers which were provided by the school. He would sneak into the computer laboratory after classes to master music mixing. Learning never ends and you never know how proficient you are without practising. This led him to make connections in different schools so he could DJ at their parties. This exposed him further in the entertainment industry.

“While I was pursuing my journalism course, I simultaneously DJed on the side. DJ Muteesa Pro, impressed by my skills, generously supplied me with professional DJ equipment and offered me valuable lessons. Being an exceptionally talented student, I caught his attention. As he worked at Radio Buddu, he presented me with an opportunity to fill in a vacancy. That’s how I embarked on my radio journey,” he states.

We meet an energetic and charismatic young man during our interview. As we step into his studio, the atmosphere is electrifying with walls adorned with posters of his favourite artists. His passion for music is palpable, his fingers gliding effortlessly across the deck. The beats reverberating through the room create an ambience that only a true artist could appreciate.

What is DJing?

DJing is a form of artistry that involves blending and manipulating recorded music. This is done to create a seamless and engaging experience for the audience. With his expert skills and unique musical taste, Melo Pro has cultivated a loyal following that appreciates his ability to transport them to a different realm through his mixes.

He is remarkable when it comes to connecting with youth. Through his music and radio platform, he has become a role model for aspiring DJs and journalists. What are some of the challenges he has encountered?

The misconception is that certain jobs are for certain age groups. It is difficult for people to give young people jobs even when they are qualified. Despite their qualifications, they are overlooked and undermined. 

The other challenge is that society thinks that by working on radio, you are a Bill Gates of some sort. You have all the money which isn’t the case. Everyone expects to be helped yet you can’t do so beyond your means. 

You also don’t have genuine friends. People that love you for who you are, not what you do. Many people admire Melo Pro but very few care about Kabogooza Meddie who is his true self. Most people find the latter boring because he prefers staying indoors and off the limelight. Women too get smitten by the voice on the radio. He advises that you need self-control and discipline to handle them without offending them.

His advice to the youth.

Put your talent out there to be seen, but don’t forget to back it with education. Talents may fade, but knowledge will always be your foundation. Believe in yourself, plan for the future, and invest wisely while you are at the peak of your talents. Most importantly, avoid over-dating. In this industry, many legends have fallen because of misplaced priorities.
