The Chaotic #endfemicideprotest in Kenya.
In recent years, Kenya has witnessed a horrifying increase in cases of femicide. The alarming statistics by the national police service in November revealed that at least 97 women were murdered, instantly triggering the nationwide anti-femicide protests in Kenya.
The peaceful demonstration held on 10th December 2024, marked the end of the ’16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence’ a global campaign led by UN Women. The #endfemicideke protest was the second march this year after the first one in January.
Thousands of men and women marched in Nairobi and other major cities in Kenya, blowing whistles and chanting, “Stop killing women! We are harmless!” calling for an end to femicide and other crimes against women. The demos turned chaotic after police intervention who repeatedly fired teargas from moving vehicles to disperse the crowd.
